I have been collecting over forty years. There were those in which my goal had tapered off due to, well, life. The unexpected, unplanned and unforeseen things which we all experience. Reflecting on them as I near fifty-two years of age, the very reason I still continue onward returns to my mind. Originally beginning by acquire those needed for the Boy Scouts coin collecting badge I found myself bitten by the collecting bug. Buying many, many books, magazines, and subscriptions over the years my quest for insatiable knowledge grew with my coins. Still does.

Not long after it began, I stumbled across a name. Loius Eliasberg, Sr. What drives me is the same which drove him. Now I'm certain of that thought which entered your mind as you read those words. I understand that he had the means in which to undertake and complete such a monumental task, the finest possible of every regular issue denomination by date and mint mark. Mine, however unrealistic it may sound lacking his financial means, is the same only in circulated condition since that is the real reason coins exist. If you know about Eliasberg then you also know that the bulk of his completion came from purchasing the collection of J.M. Clapp which he added to. So, knowing that it will never happen in my life time one would think it foolish to continue on with that goal. Instead, I chose to leave it to one of my children or a relative of the same namesake for them to pursue that which I can no longer. Perhaps some day my name will grace the coin community right next to his.

Hello,

My name is Joe2007 and I am a hoarder.

Instead of spending my discretionary money on vacations, fast food, and overly expensive tech gadgets I spend on adding to my collections. I enjoy being able to acquire something you can hold in your hand rather than spending money on a experiences that you may not be able to remember in a few years. I guess I'm out the normal bell curve for my generation.

My Grandfather collected coins and he would always show them to me when I stayed over there. Then he gave me an old large 2$ bill (that I still have today) and that got me started. My Father also collected coins and helped me fill the blue Whitman folders the best he could. So the thrill of coin collecting was what I really enjoyed as a young kid and it stayed with me through the years. Now that my Grandfather and my Father have both passed on I'm the sole surviving coin collector in my family. It's a pleasure to still look at the coins they had given me throughout the years and relive the memories of being with them!

I just want to collect every different coin I can get my hands on.
I'm not a hoarder, I only collect one of each coin. That is one from
every mint, every denomination, every year from every country, but
limited to about 1800 onwards and circulations coins preferred.
It's a task I will never complete, but I'll have fun trying and I
think that's what it's all about. :)

It is all sort of like an itch. Just can't stop scratching and coins are similar. Just a bad habit I guess or is it a good habit?
Rest in Peace

Well it all started about 57 years ago when my uncle gave me WW11 foreign currency and war metals . That lit a spark ,but it really wasn't until when I was a little older and another uncle gave me a 1905-O Barber half dollar that started me on my adventure into coin collecting . Been active ever since except for a 10 year hiatus between 85-95 , the usual life interruptions .One thing I want to mention , I never
got into Errors and Varieties as most of the members on CCF . What I know now about E&V is what I've learned over the last few years being a member .

I love history and coins are tiny time capsules from the past. No telling who's pockets or hands they have passed through.
