Thought I'd grab out the coins I've acquired this year. This represents (most) of what I picked up. There are some in danscos that are not included here. But for the most part this is the haul to date. I say to date because Christmas is coming and the wife usually surprises me with something awesome.

These were acquired via local shows, my local coin shop and some off the bay.

My process during the course of the year is to store my new acquisitions in 2x2 flips and at the end of the year put them in Coin World premier slabs. That's just my preference in storage I know others have other ideas.

In the picture is 79 coins, means I average about 6+ coins per month. I'm curious as to what the rest of you average per month or year.

Sorry for the glare on some of the flips..

srs77, Nice selection of coins. I like what you're collecting!

This one-year snapshot provides some insight on your goals, but I'd like to know more. Are you looking to complete date sets?

I like that 1831 half. I'd like to see it in the "Circulation Cameo" topic:

CC, You are partially correct. I look to complete date and mintmark sets. I love the 1831 busy half, one of my favorite designs.

As a 30+ year coin collector, I'd recommend holding out for higher grades, even though they'll cost more and it'll take you longer to complete sets. For example, rather than buying three G-4 1918 Walking Liberty half dollars, I would recommend buying the same dates in VF-20 but waiting longer between purchases. You'll be rewarded with a more satisfying collection in the long run. Also, you won't be as tempted to sell the lower grades later to upgrade to higher grades. The upgrade process can be costly, since you might have to sell at below cost.
Rest in Peace

Nice little set of coins but just because they were cheap is not a good reason to gobble them up . I see some common coins that are damaged , believe me you don't want to continue with this way of collecting .
with Classic Coins , Take your time when putting together a set of coins . Coin collecting is not about how many coins you bought in a months time It's not about a contest among other collectors ,It's the wow factor of finding a high grade circulated coin at a fair and decent price . then you can be proud to show them off .

I respect both of your opinions and in a lot of cases that's what I do. By the same token some of us enjoy the coins from a different standpoint. In other words what have those coins seen in their lifetime. For me personally, I don't mind a G4 coin. I find them just as appealing as an MS65 coin. Trust me when I say, when I open up my collection it brings me great joy. For more that 50 years it always has and always will. Happy collecting....

Thanks all, T-Bop, that's what makes collecting so much fun for me. I truly enjoy hearing what and how everyone collects. Also why I love this group so much, so much knowledge and so much great advice.

JBuck, I'm surprised there were actually two that weren't Ikes!

There are typically more non-Ikes. My buying graded Ikes only started two years ago. Before that, the last Ike was bought in 1993.

The only reason why there were just two non-Ikes is that the remaining holes in the Dansco albums are quite spendy. This two this year were 1914-D LWC and 1913-S V2 Buffalo nickel.
