Hello I am new here and to collecting coins all together. Could anyone tell me why this 1980p Washington quarter that I found looks this way?

It would appear someone might have been trying to make a necklace or a dangly piece of jewelry by drilling a hole in it. The parallel lines running across it look like marks from vice or tool used to hold it on place while drilling. That would be my guess.
Others with more experience while be along soon to chime in.
