Hello guys!I need some help in finding the catalogue entry for this particular 1765 M.T thaler that seems to be quite a rare variant, at least from my research. The S.C one appears to be common but I only managed to find 2 past sales for this type.I'm trying to see what would be a fair price for a EF/EF+ piece!Thank you in advance!

Paul, this is a Burgau Thaler, KM15 Dav 1147. Not a particularly rare coin, though perhaps scarcer than S.C. variant. Here are some links: http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/B...ler_Dav-1147In terms of pricing, this MS64 sold for $920 in 2012 https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1224975From the sales I've seen, samples sell from 150-900EUR depending on condition. Your sample below seems much better than XF. Hard to tell for sure from the small image but that's easily an AU and probably an MS coin. Assuming it hasn't been cleaned and is lustrous, I wouldn't be surprised if this hammers in the 400-500EUR range.

cableguy815 First of all, thank you for your research!I wasn't expecting any reply!I'm not surprised at all to see that crowns like this are of less interest around here.Apparently coins that are of almost zero numismaic value and importance are strongly collected and studied! On the other hand, quality does not come with numbers so my observation only confirms the rule. Coming back to the topic,I've seen the thaler being labeled as a Dav.1147 also Dav.1112.Now I stil believe this variant is at least scarce and i'll show you below the common ones for 1765 with the Gunzburg mintmark on the obv.The last piece is the one that made me digg a bit and it's available for 250 euros. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Paul,
I'm not sure I fully understood what you're trying to say.
Pic 1 is the "S.C." variant. Are you saying that Pic 4 is a different variant than pics 2&3?
Also, what is the relationship of Pic 4 and your original coin? Those are two different pieces. Which of those two is available for 250?

Ah I see; I am not a variant collector so I am unsure if this is a recognized variant - perhaps someone who specializes in MTT can chime in. I cannot comment on the added rarity/price of this variant, if it is indeed one. In terms of condition, I think your original coin above is better struck/less circulated than this one. I see a lot more flat in the hair on Obv, feathers and crown on Rev than in your original posting. 250 Eur doesn't seem unreasonable for this coin. Again, without seeing the coin in hand it's hard to tell. It's hard to tell for sure because the picture is so small, but it appears that the center device is slight different between your original posting and the current one.

cableguy815 I'm not sure either if this is a recognized variant but I think it should be even though the difference is small. As for the grade I totally agree with you,the last one is not as well preserved and I'm affraid i'll say no.This being said, thanks once again and see you soon on the main crown topic!

I'm with you on that one; 250EUR is a fair bid, nothing stellar. I know you are a bargain hunter like me so I think passing is the right call - I don't think this coin is anything special. 250EUR could be spent better elsewhere.
See you in the crown universe!

Beautiful thaler Zohar. Absolutely beautiful colors - It has a straight up ROY G BIV going for it.
