Hello so here is the story about these coins . I bought these and a bunch of others from a auction and the collection I bought from was supposedly pretty old . These two half dollars are the correct thickness and diameter and the weight is right. And they ring exactly like my other walkers that I know are real and also passed the magnet test. These both have a mint mark on the front and back which I can not find any other coins that have this and searched what I could think to online and nothing . The local coin shop said they looked real to him so should I just send these to get graded and see what happens or is there some other route I can take ? I dont want to just write these off as fakes without definitely knowing . Thanks for any help .

to CCF!

I was not familiar with it, but the 1917 S and D coins can have the MM on either side. I don't know the history as to why, but I also don't see any examples where dies were combined so as to have an mm on both sides.

The most likely explanation for me is that these are a type of Magician's coin. That means two halves of original coins being combined into a single "novelty" coin. What does the edge look like?

They cannot have the mintmark on both sides at once so spruett's answer is the most likely and I agree.

to CCF. Please remove coins from holders and retake photos, also please rotate the pics properly before posting. Label the coin pics coin 1 and coin 2 obverse reverse. If there is a mint mark on both sides of the same coin,we will need good pics of the edges as well.

I'm very curious, and how cool would it be if those are actual transitional coins from obverse to reverse mint marks?
Probably fake, but please get some better pics!

Thanks guys . Sorry it took me so long to reply . I will try to take better pics tomorrow. The edge on both coins is normal with no sign of tampering .
