I'm with quite a few others. No selling but cutting back.
Though to fill some of my cravings I have been purchasing late 19th & early 20th century world coin coppers which usually cost from $1 to $3.
By the way, congrats Shatsi on your expecting

I've actually noticed that there's been an increase in bigger coin purchases from from members in the last few months. I've actually been part of that trend too.  |

(Me) I am here because I am like everyone else and want to find a happy medium with my own life and hobby. LOL, I could not resist.
I am glad to hear that everyone is roughly in the same boat and take personal responsibility for their actions. This has been a hard lesson for me and my family and a big trial and error process but we are taking actions to improve it and still feel like we are human.
Growing up my grandfather would visit us a couple of times a year and when he gave us money he would hold onto it nice and stiff so we could not take it and say "you can not save it all, and you can not spend it all". When I was younger I listened to the first half more and as I grew up finally understood the rest of it.
If you just go from check to check and have a tough time doing anything else, you really do not feel as if you are living. Early in my marriage me and my wife would go all out on holidays and different special events and never realised at first how much we were hurting each other financially. After a few years we sat down and went over our budget and came up with strict guide lines on what we could spend, now some years later I make a lot more money but we have kept the same goals (if not tighter).
Our two guilty pleasures are coins for me and clothes and books for her. We set up monthly allowances and that was it whether it went on the first or last day of the month. Just a few weeks ago she lost her job and this has been the first thing out of the way because we know it is not a necessity and more a hobby. I also know things will turn around and in a few months I will be back here posting purchases and not just advice.

 This is free therapy here !!.... With that !....through thick and thin.....stay consistent and you'll persevere ! Sorry your wife lost her job PennyPincher....your words are ones to live by for sure !...  |

Maybe shopping in general. Sometimes just buying something for yourself just plain ol' makes ya feel good !  Eaglefoot leaves the room to go grocery shopping and is pondering buying a chocolate cake.........( yes within my budget and NO ! I'm NOT PUTTING IT ON MY CREDIT CARD !...  ..  ) Edited by eaglefoot

I'm fortunate. Jobs in the healthcare field are plentiful. My company pays mileage which still covers gas and a car payment. Like jbuck I bought a 1500 square foot house that I could afford instead of the 3000 square foot house that I was eligible to buy. The kids college fund is fed, the retirement fund is fed, the cat is fed. I actually have extra money kicking around this summer because I'm not paying for my oldest son's preschool. Guess where that's going?
By the way Eaglefoot, don't bother paying off her college loans. The interest is a tax deduction! I'll be paying mine until I'm 55 years old.

Personal Responsibility... yes... That's a great thing. BUT - Laying the current mess all of on individuals is flat out stupid. Deceptive and predatory lending practices are as much (if not more) to blame for the current mess as anything else. I would highly recommend the documentary " MAXED OUT". It's one heckuva an eye opener. As to the price of fuel, I feel for all of you. I know the current situation is horrible especially for those that had worked themselves into the middle class only to have energy prices push them right back down again. (I work in the oil industry (Drilling Fluids Engineer)) |

Don't sell the coins first, most of us have old film cameras, furniture, CD:s, DVD:s and other electronics what we don't need anymore but someone does. Good act environmentally too |

Good act environmentally too .......good points !......Before ANYONE would sell one single coin because of a bill.....they should go look in the attic or the garage.....I bet most could find all kinds of stuff that we don't really need ! |
