I am not a collector but post here in the hope one of the forum members might assist.
I am dealing with a deceased estate, and in the papers are a number of £5.00 notes in an envelope upon which is written 'mis-printed notes from 2002, withdrawn from circulation'.
There are two sets each with serial numbers in sequence.
The beneficiary is a charity and so I have to be careful to determine if they are worth more than the face value.
I had forgotten about this. It seems that when the five pound notes were first released that the serial numbers could be worn off because of serial number was applied on top of the varnish rather than under.
Hopefully someone who knows more about banknotes can comment on the value.
Questions that they would probably ask would be, what is the condition of the notes? Are they crisp bank new notes? What serial numbers are on the notes?
Aproximately 3 million were put into circulation and not really sort after as being quite a recent issue and lots of them most collectors will have one.
if they are MINT you should get between £10 and £15 to a collector but have the agravation of trying to sell them, probably best to put them away.
Sorry I should of read your post properly ,if they are from an estate they are better sold to a dealer in one go and would be surprised if you are offered much more than face value.
