I found this coin in my cull pile. I wonder how you would grade this.

I apologize for inverting the reverse image.

So I'm wondering what is going on here? It appears that someone may have ground away the reverse of the coin on a lathe. I've actually found two metal detecting finds that had the same thing. Both British King George III coins. Did people try and recover the copper/bronze at some point?

VF-30; and yes, someone ground down the reverse.
Likely not to recover the copper, as the price is/was not worth the effort.

Non-gradable, as it is a damaged coin.

Does anybody have any idea while this is done. Again, I've found two metal detecting finds like this as well, and I've wondered what the intended purpose was.
