Just seeking a little advice as I'm new to coins. I just bought this British sovereign and paid a premium for an "AU" coin (not in a slab, though). The coin has some rim damage, though, which I did not expect on an AU. Normally, this wouldn't bother me except that I paid a premium over an average circulation coin. To return or not to return is the question!? Thanks for any advice.

.9167 (22ct) gold is soft, and is relatively subject to dents. It would be better if the rim dents were not there.

I cannot see obvious signs of minor wear. If the rim dents were not there, the rest of the coin, which has lots of minor dings and scratches, would grade at at MS60.
Perhaps the seller was being honest by grading it at AU, and I would agree with that.

Probably right, but without full pics, I wouldn't try to grade it.

Personally I dislike rim dents with aplomb.Melt value IMO.
Return it if not satisfied.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I'll return it.
