Hempstead County, Arkansas is producing a bicentennial silver round. The obverse shows the dimensions of the county when it was created in 1818; the reverse shows the modern dimensions. Currently less than 80 are expected to be made. Copies can be bought at Hempstead200.com.

Cool. Hempstead borders my own former residence in Miller County.

Edit: from appearances, it seems that what is now Miller county was originally part of Hempstead county. I learned something today! I dont think that will make me put up the $50 for the silver round, though.

It is my understanding that both Miller counties -- the original one, encompassing Bowie County, Texas -- as well as the current one, were originally part of Hempstead County. The modern border was used in the 1818 map to make the dimensions somewhat recognizable.

Proceeds from the sales apply to the expenses of the Hempstead County bicentennial committee.
