ebay should take a firmer stance in controlling the shipping and handling fees. Nothing hacks me off more than paying something like $4.00 for S&H and getting a coin wrapped in a piece of paper in a plain ol' envelope posted with two $.41 stamps. Give me a break. $4.00 should at least pay for postage, padded envelope, 2x2 holder for coin, delivery confirmation AND the seller's time! But anyhoo, if they showed up via FedEx that's a good deal cuz at least you are getting what you paid for AND a good deal on the coins to boot!

ebay doesn't seem to particularly care about anything, unless you technically violate a rule in a non-harmful manner by accident.

I really disagree that the guy is a dishonest seller. He clearly stated the shipping charge. As long as he does what he said he would do then how is that dishonest?
It is a contract and as long as he does what he says, then how is he dishonest?
If you don't want to pay those shipping charges, then don't bid.

He's not dishonest, but he is deceptive. Nevertheless, someone sharper than he as far as coins are concerned beat him at his game. Good job!

I would say that he isn't being deceptive, but rather trying to cut costs in a rather deceptive way. Instead of using a reserve amount, which costs extra, he's just in a sense making a free reserve by making his shipping costs higher. Therefor ensuring he gets his minimum amount asked.

Yea, it's fine unless you need a refund. He gives you back 10 cents! Quote: REFUNDED AMOUNT WILL EXCLUDE SHIPPING CHARGES

Well, I guess it really comes down to whether or not he sent the nickels via 2nd day FedEx. If he did, then he really isn't proffering off the high shipping charges. But if he just sends it in an envelope via regular USPS mail (or any other shipping method other than stated) than he is being dishonest.
and I thoroughly agree with mklpatrick...those who overcharge on shipping and send the coin (or any other merchandise for that matter) poorly wrapped and in much cheaper shipping than what was paid for is truly dishonest. what also really burns me up is when I pay for insurance and the product comes shipping without any insurance....grrr

BadThad has a very good point there. I didn't think about that. That IS deceptive salesmanship.

I want to throw my 2 cents in and say the seller is neither being dishonest, nor deceptive. He clearly states his shipping amount and shipping method. My guess is the reason his shipping is excessively high is that he wants to avoid paying ebay and paypal seller fees. Don't fault the guy for being smart. Simply having excessing shipping costs is not wrong. Not unethical. Not deceptive. Not dishonest. That being said .. Stating one shipping method and shipping another is wrong, regardless of the price you paid for shipping. Failing to properly ship the item in a way that maintains its condition is wrong, regardless of the price you paid.

I work kind of a crazy schedule (when they call I go, might be for a day, might be for a month.) Anyway, I left the day after I paid for this.
I called my wife today. Usually she doesn't open packages that are sent to me but believe it or not this one WAS sent by FedEx. (she couldn't remember if it was UPS or FedEx... doesn't matter really though).
Since this is out of the norm, she went ahead and opened it. She couldn't get over that the postage cost the shipper almost $20 (her words, I haven't seen the package yet) but the coins were only 10 cents.
SO... Long story short. I'm going to go with this is an honest seller... just with crazy shipping charges
I didn't ask her what day they arrived on.
