Found this 1914 LWC in a group of about 400+ LWC's 24 years ago. This group of coins had been sealed in a peanut butter can and packed in a trunk in 1936 and forgotten about until I unpacked the trunk. This find which belonged to my great uncle was the foundation for my current LWC collection. He died in 1935, and since a good number of the 1928 and newer coins were in low MS condition, I believe it remained sealed from when they packed his belongings into the trunk at the time of his death.

I did come across this 1914 LWC when I went through the coins 24 years ago, and basically put it in a holder and forgot about it. I always just figured he had ground the back of the coin off somehow, but never knew. Looking for some input from some of the members on this forum as to what it is. I do not see any grinding or sanding marks on the reverse, there is a scratch, but not from grinding or tooling, there also does not appear to be a rim on the reverse of the coin. The obverse shows a lot of wear, but also appears to be very weakly struck.

Here are some measurements on the coin:

Weight : 2.43 g

Thickness : 1.19 mm

Diameter: 19.09 mm

Any thoughts on this one would be greatly appreciated.

The coin has been ground down on the reverse.
The telling signs are that it should weigh 3.1g and the
fact that there is a rim on only one side.
Ther should be a rim on both sides.

the lack of the rim on the reverse plus the weight tell the story.

I've ran across a few mostly LWCs that had the reverse sanded off. The ones I've seen were sanded and then something stamped or engraved on the 'blank canvas'.

It's Post Strike Damage ( PSD), not an error.
