just a little rant, back in the beginning of dec I listed a bunch of 1859 cents in different lots, my title would read 1859 canadian large cent lot 1,,lot2,,,lot 3 ....lot 4 etc well I had one bidder win 6 of these lots after he got the coins he wanted a refund because he said this lot should have 27 coins(for lot #27) and this lot should hav 36 coins intead of 1 and this lot should have 25 intead of 1 etc,,,, even tho my description said this is the coin you will receive so he won most of these lots for around $1 - $2 each ,so he expected arounf 180 coins for around $6 i explained that it was just a reference to which lot was what for my own organizing of auctions, well ater that I heard nothing more till today as he escalted it in ebay and within an hour ebay ruled in his favor (allthough they said ebay will reimberse him and not me) but I think the buyer did this to get the coins search for varieties and when he found none wanted his $ back, now this has me thinking what would stop someone from butying 1 ounce gold bars and when the seller calls it lot #7 the buyer could then say seller only shipped me one and not 7? sorry I just had to vent this buyer is going to walk away with 6 1859 large cents for free

Sorry for your experiences. I guess you just have to list things one at a time, very simply and without dangling references.

Used to be..."buyer beware"...now it looks like "seller beware". That's a stretch on the buyers behalf. Sorry gidjit.

Definitely a stretch, but some buyers come up with the most ridiculous explanations to get their way. At least you are not out anything in the end. Just block the buyer. Whenever I have had multiple of the same coin listed, I used letters to identify the lots (Lot A, Lot B, Lot AA, etc.). That may help in the future.

It seems like that's the way of the world now (especially when it comes to ebay)...people want something for nothing. These are the same people who will then try to sell you something (particularly something common and in bad shape) for big bucks that is literally worth only a few pennies. Definitely this is seller beware. This reminds me of a bad experience I had on Kijiji. I found a guy who was selling a common date Peace dollar (very well worn), a common date pre-67 Canadian silver dollar (also well worn) and 3 Canadian nickel dollars from the early 70's (VF at best) on Kijiji. If you could believe it, the guy had the audacity to ask $300 for the lot! Obviously the coins weren't worth anywhere near that. This was the better part of a decade ago. I wasn't interested in the nickel dollars, only the Peace $ and the pre-67 Canadian $. I generously offered the seller 10% over the spot price of silver for the two silver dollars...only to have the jerk email me back calling me every profane name under the sun. Needless to say I told him to take his attitude and to get lost, that I would not do business with anybody who acted like that. Not only that, I told him if he was so sure of his price, to put them on ebay and watch what happens...I told him nobody would bid on his crap because it was vastly overpriced. He then posted another Kijiji ad with my email address in it where he was badmouthing me, which I reported immediately. His response? Another profanity laced email to me, at which point I just blocked him. Just be careful out there everybody.

This kind of thing would not fly in the days before the internet, when everyone had a name and that meant something

I'd call ebay and state your side of the story. Lots of sellers list duplicate items as Lot#1. lot#2, etc..... I know I have in the past.
