Just found this one in a pile of mixed proof cents. It's not perfect but as a new CherryPickers' Guide variety just listed in the 6th edition it's nice to have one in the collection. Hope the photos show all those thick letters around the obverse without needing lots of close ups. Proofs are still a challenge for me to photograph. 1956 Lincoln Wheat cent doubled die DDO-002, FS-101

Excellent example, too bad it's impaired.

While it has a few light scratches and some finger spots, I wouldn't think this would grade below PF-60. Help me out, as I am fairly new to working with proof coins and would not have called this one impaired.

By no means I tried to knock your coin, but with obverse finger prints, scratches and the field disturbance on reverse it has lost it's perfection. It doesn't have to be a mangled Proof coin to be considered impaired. TMHO

Tropicalbats, When you say a pile of mixed proof cents, are they just in a jar, or a box or something ? Shouldn't they be separated to prevent further damage ?

Hey Dan, I'm originally from Pittsburgh and so I use the word "pile" to mean "a bunch" not a literal heap of things. Yeah, I talk weird too and people know where I'm from pretty quickly if you know the accent. The proofs are in plastic tubes and properly taken care of not in a Friar Tuck sack!
Chase, didn't take that as a knock at the coin but as a more informed opinion than mine. I've tried to figure out what is/isn't an impaired proof and the only two things I come up with are 1) showing circulation wear or 2) less than grade PF-60. Just didn't think a light fingerprint or light scratches met either of those criteria. If those disqualify a PF grade then how does one get a PF-63? Wouldn't that imply that it's a nice but not perfect coin with some light scratches or discoloration spots or something?
