Definitely a genuine U.S. Mint error. I just can't exactly describe what happened, as there's so much going on, all at once.

It wasn't nearly as valuable as the famous upside-down airplane stamp, at least not yet. :)

And it wasn't graded. I think if I had it, I would at least show it to a coin dealer or post it on a forum or two before thinking about selling it.

Out of the ordinary, at any rate.

It was counted, put in a bag, and shipped out.

As for what happened to it, it looks like it was struck through a late stage capped die, and then again through a planchet.
