Well, the pics definitely need to be improved for photograding purposes, but since it is a 1963, I'll say MS-63. No way is it FS.

It's possible it is FS. it looks about the same as other FS 1963 nickels. But I'm not sure so I added the question mark.

I did not submit this to PCGS. So far no one has matched the PCGS opinion. I've rescanned and magnified the steps.

Nick , have you ever heard of counterfeit PCGS slabs ? I think some other members know where I'm going with this . But it really don't make much sense with such a common inferior Nickle . you say none of us has guessed the right grade given by PCGS . I hope you don't say it is MS-65 FS .

And, the PCGS grade is ... MS-65, not full step. The coin in hand is better than in the photos. I suspect because the slab is older it has more scratches than people are used to. T-BOP, I agree concern is warranted for slabs like this, but its cert number checks out.
IIRC I paid less than $1 for this slab as part of a larger set when I was gathering reference pieces in order to learn how to ID full steppers. I too have wondered why anyone would submit this coin for grading, but I suspect s/he was hoping for an FS designation.

I figured it was only slabbed because of a FS designation but I can see why it didn't get it and why someone would send it in in case it was FS. It's a nice coin none the less, great pick up for less than a buck.
