Hello O Wise Ones,
I recently received this crown in the post, which under artificial light looks ok to me (first picture, and advertised under similar conditions). Weight is 29.6g and is the same diameter as my 1687 crown. I did a quick buoyancy test for specific gravity which was 10.42. However, on closer examination under direct sunlight, I noticed that where the coin is worn the metal shows a distinct ochre colour, almost coppery (second photo). My second concern is the edge lettering; although worn, most of it is legible, including SECVNDO, but the orientation is different to my 1687. When viewed so that DECVS is visible, on the 1687 the uppermost side of the coin is the reverse, whereas for this 1686, the obverse is uppermost (third photo).

Should I be concerned about this coin? Is the orientation of the edge legend just normal variation?
Many thanks.

I should add that the 1687 crown, which has more wear, does not show the red discoloration under the same lighting conditions - the worn areas remain silver coloured.
Any and all comments welcome.
Thanks.
