For solid radars, they are always above BV. It is very difficult if not impossible to get one for BV, or even close to one.

-that's why ebay is a good alternative to scout for special numbers

Book Value for fancy serial numbers bear little correlation with market value. For solid radars, they are always above BV. It is very difficult if not impossible to get one for BV, or even close to one.

-I agree and this is especially true for live auctions because they typically attract collectors who know how scarce these notes are. I still remain puzzled over many of the catalogue prices for special serial numbers because even ladders, million # & rotators (really sweet 2 digit radars) seem to often defy book value.

However, these generalizations can only be seen during normal growth phases of the economy. During recessions and economic times of uncertainty (like in 2008) you'd be surprised what you can buy at BV and less. I bought 1 ladder & 2 original UNC solids for about $200 below BV when the economy really sputtered.
