I got this nice looking medal out of the same job-lot as the Jeton and other I will probably post in a couple of minutes. Any information as to value/ what is is all about?..

It appears to depict King Arthur on one side with ignorance, intemperance, envy, cruelty and idleness written all over a giant lizard or more likely a slain dragon. He is holding a cross so it must have something to do with Christianity.
On the other side it reads: "we must do the thing we ought before the thing we may" inside a shield surrounded by a laurel wreath. Around the circumference we have "the order of the round table",

Medal:-Ignorance,-Intemperance,-Envy,-Cruelty

If you Google the exact phrase "order of the round table" most of the top hits are related to a youth organization founded by the Theosophical Society. Founded in 1895, so that's the earliest possible date for this piece.

Oh my gosh!

When I google it I get to the website of the Theosophical Society of England. This is the children's branch of the religious organisation.

Apparently, here is their creed..

Quote:
I am a link in the Golden Chain of love
That stretches round the world
And I must keep my link bright and strong.

So I will try to be kind and gentle
To every living thing I meet
And to protect and help all who are
weaker than myself.

And I will try to think pure and beautiful thoughts, To speak pure and beautiful words
And do pure and beautiful actions.
May every link in the Golden Chain
Become bright and strong.
(poor kids!)

Will someone get me a sick bucket?

If only they had made every 'youth' attend the society, things would be a lot better in our society methinks..

I must admit that I am not even vaguely religiose, but it is still a nicely crafted medal.
