Are those scratches/nicks on the Obverse or just dust, etc?

I think some are really dust and maybe little scratches.. image host

Photo overkill. You need simple straight-on pics showing the entire coin on both sides. to the CCF!

Much better, but portrait side is washed out on the right side, so surface details can't be seen. One more try.

GrapeCollects- It can't be a PL. Canada didn't produce PL coins in 1948.
Sergio- All these pictures of partial coins are no good for grading. We need a full clear photo of the Obverse as to see any marks or scratches. Notice what may be a fingerprint on the Obverse.

Not sure on the grade due to the photos but it does appear to have a better than normal strike on the reverse. The 48s were notorious for weakly struck reverses.

Maybe just an early impression from the dies? Looks like a lock 63 with a good chance at MS64 from the pictures.
And welcome, Sergio!

From that picture, I am going to say MS63. Looks like an almost full strike on the Reverse which is nice. It is also the Narrow Date Variety.
