Found this 1997 penny this morning on the sidewalk. Looks like a " Wide AM" to me. If I'm not mistaken.. all pennies made after 1992 were all suppose to be made Close AM's.

Could you please post a picture of the whole Obverse, there are other markers to indicate whether it is a WAM or not. Looks like your coin may have taken a hit opening the space between the A & M.

1997 Wide AM, highly unlikely as there has never been a business strike discovered. Would need to see obverse pics as well as a pic of the FG on the reverse.

Please post full pictures, as stated before. It most likely just took some damage making it look like a WAM.

Tried to get the FG best as I could. But I took another angle shot of the AM and it seems there is a path between with the white residue around them. Hope this helps.

We need to see full pics of the obverse with the date. Your last pics shows to be a closed AM.

Here are obverse and reverse Ive put up another 97 penny to compare the AM's and it seems this example of the AM are touching.

Also the FG in the example 97 are much closer to the steps than the other.

They don't have to be touching to be a CAM, just not centered. Yours is clearly a Close AM. Just look at the A in States, it isn't centered as a WAM should be.

I understand. How much room needed for it to be a WAM?

All you have to really see to tell it's a Wide AM is the FG. Widths vary with die wear.
