Hi Everyone,

I need help in identifying two ancient greek coins please. Apologies for the extremely bright and bad pictures - I took them with my phone with the flash on. The letters on these coins is very hard for me to make out or google. I'll find a way to get better pictures if necessary.

Second one is likely Bactrian, perhaps Menander I. Yes, please provide better pics, if possible, so we can pin these down.

That does help - for i.d.'ing.

Septimius Severus denarius for the first, FVNDATOR PACIS reverse.

Menander I drachm for the second, I believe. I'm curious to see others' opinions on authenticity - even better pics may help us assess. I am concerned by the king's eye on the obverse and what might be a casting pearl under Athena's shield (to right of the aegis) on the reverse. It may be fine, but I'm not sure.

Thanks Bob L. My phone is lousy at taking photos. I'll see if I can get something better going.

FVNDATOR PACIS (Founder of the Peace) is Septimius Severus boasting that he has brought in a period of peace.

The other coin is indeed a drachm of Menander (it reads BASILEOS SOTHROS MENANDOY, King Menander [I] Soter). Bob's eagle eye has spotted an issue - comparing the coin to authentic examples online shows that that dot under Athena's arm should not be there. Given the material similarities to the Septimius Severus, I'd question the authenticity of both.

Here's my Menander for comparison:
