Exactly, so I don't know why we are continuing to debate what it might be if it wasn't a fake.

Crazy glue, or Super glue? the "S' is too outstanding for the rest of the devices. U.S Garage Minting? That '22 Hmm "no D" must have come from the same process.

Not sure how the S was attached, but it's not even close to where it should be either. Poor old dealer guy I bought it from submitted it to PSGS, he wasn't very good at Lincolns. He told me he owned the coin for 20 some years and paid $650 for it. I saw it in his case with "Not For Sale" written on it....I bugged him for months to sell it to me. LOL

Even though these are fakes, I find them interesting when they're done fairly well. They serve collectors as training tools. I'd like to have a side collection of decent fakes just for fun.

Many collectors, including the ANA, have such "black cabinets".

It doesn't look like it is that far off, but the mintmark is much too bold to be the die that has the mintmrk there.

Thad,

On ebay you can get some pretty good ones. Just tell the seller before you buy that you do not want "Replica" on it. I did this for the 1877 Indian and 1856 flying eagle I have.
