After finding the 57 D Dime I posted about earlier I decided to go through some of my dime hoard and found this 1964 P dime that is very well struck and the surface texture is different, not by much but a little different. What struck me most was the rim. It is square all the way around and for comparisons sake I have a normal 1964 dime as a side by side comparison. Every 1964 dime I have whether P or D are the same width except for this dime. SMS or just well struck? Regardless its a keeper for the silver content. I am leaning towards it being well struck.

I find coins like this from time to time, cents, nickels, dimes, quarters. I am of the opinion (and it's just opinion) that these coins that exhibit these traits are the coins struck at West Point Mint on the vertical presses there under higher pressure, instead of the quick horizontal presses at P or D that are set for speed.

West Point has a habit of striking circulation coins on there presses without mint marks from time to time when they have nothing else to do to keep busy and help production.

Anyways It's been my opinion that coins that exhibit these traits are West Point products. You could weigh it and see if it's within tolerances in case its an off metal planchet it was struck on, but I'm fairly certain it will be the right weight for the 90% composition.

It's pretty. Thanks for sharing.

It may not be a SMS but it's very nicely struck indeed.
