As the key date for the Peace dollar series, I'd get it slabbed whether cleaned or not.

EF-40, might get a details tag because of the long scratch in the left obverse field which shows clearly in the first pic.

Thanks for all your help. I sent this coin along with 7 others to PCGS for grading (I purchased their membership) and this coin was graded "Genuine XF Details 95 Scratch". Since I want to sell this coin, not sure how to price since Red Book doesn't show a price for "XF".... suggestions?

Problem coins such as this are listed with their auction results as well. This data provides a baseline for a retail value. Not to be a bearer of bad news but this is a low value coin. As it sits the retail value is around $40 to $50 (max).

Maybe a tad more, but not much.

Going forward it is highly recommended that one factor in costs such as: PCGS membership fees, round trip freight and insurance charges to/fro PCGS, time value of one's labor to research, prepare, ship..., minimum acceptable % profit over and above CoinFacts valuations and when selling on ebay, for example, their 15% charge plus about 5% for PayPal. I have said this multiple times in other threads but it just does not make any sense to use up a PCGS grading cert unless a coin is worth at least $ 125 resale. I cannot believe how many times at auctions I've seen TPG (third party graders like PCGS or NGC) slabs on coins valued at only $ 20 - $ 30. One never wants to trade $s for the same $s or worse yet just flat out waste money etc.... Good luck and always get CCF's opinion when your're on the borderline.

Quote: PCGS membership fees, If you use them properly the PCGS membership fee actually lowers the cost a lot. The best way to join is the platinum $250 membership. If you use those right they have a $320 value saving you money. You also get the shirt that can be sold for 20-30 if you want to reduce the cost more. Cost basis is certainly a consideration but if you use the membership right for PCGS you can save money once a year
