So I purchased this encased mirror button, which advertised a jewelry shop in Minneapolis. Luckily, because it was covered by some sort of plastic, it is still full red and beautiful! And I'm certain it hasn't been cleaned.

I cracked it out of the button, and I'm left with a bizarre oddity...

The strike is super, super razor sharp, the fields are super shiny and the rim seems squared. Normally, I'd be inclined to assume it to be a proof, but when looking at the reverse, I'm left COMPLETELY CONFUSED! Any ideas?

(Sorry for the poor pictures)

It looks reprocessed to me (and maybe whizzed before that). It would have been best to leave it in the button to retain some original value. Now, it has very little value.

Probably right. Not sure what happened to that messy area on the reverse, though.

looks like PMD on the reverse and then someone wanted to shine it up to display it.
Rest in Peace
