I looked through the archives for a similar thread but was unable to find one. My apologies if there is one.

I have reached the point where I have completed and almost completed a number of Dansco and Whitman albums - and one CAPS album. I have found that storing these albums takes up an inordinate amount of room, especially the CAPS album which is HUGE.

In addition to this, I am considering the long-term storage and display of my collection. I am looking into the 8" X 14" Capital Plastics Holders as they will display the coins attractively (Blue and Black ones show silver coinage exceptionally well), can fit into a safety deposit box and take up less overall space.

While I have never had any issues with Dansco or Whitman Albums (my CAPS album is too new to evaluate), I am wondering if the Capital Plastics Holders will provide an equal, lesser or similar long-term protection of the coins.

I would appreciate any opinions you may have.

Thanks!

I have not handled them, but
Capital Plastics coin holders seem to be made from stiff PVA, (Acetate), heat pressed sheet, not PVC.

I have ad a look at their on line advertising.

PVA is used for food storage, so it must be OK for the long term storage of coins as well.

I have well over 100 Albums. Mostly they are Whitman Classics. Several other brands too including several Danscos. Some are well over 50 years old I think but not sure. Regardless of time I keep all the better ones in Zip Lock Plastic bags. The really great ones are in double bags meaning one inside the other and never had a problem with any coins toning, fading, corroding, etc. Yes it is a bit of a problem when I want to check out something in one of the Albums and have to take them out of the Zip Lock bag but well worth the trouble to save the great condition of those coins.

I think for protection they are like six in one hand and a half dozen in the other. Both are made from safe materials, neither one is air tight. Where you store them (low humidity, stable temperature) is going to be more important than in which (album or Capital) you store them.

For the record, over 34 years of using Dansco albums, no complaints.

I used the Caps Albums for my U.S. Type Set collection. 2 albums total. Very happy with the look and safe storage of each coin.
