Quote: Don't spend too much time looking....it's a Fantasy note. Steve, What is that makes that $100 SC a fantasy note instead of a counterfeit note?

Whoever did this (and it's a great job) forgot to remove one of the two different Series dates when he finished.

Quote: What is that makes that $100 SC a fantasy note instead of a counterfeit note? To me, a counterfeit is an attempt to replicate real, circulating currency and a Fantasy note is a "What if " note.

Steve, I think you're correct in that the legal definition of counterfeit means it has to be a fake of an actual note. However, 18 U.S.C 484,Connecting parts of different notes says Quote: Whoever so places or connects together different parts of two or more notes, bills, or other genuine instruments issued under the authority of the United States, or by any foreign government, or corporation, as to produce one instrument, with intent to defraud, shall be guilty of forgery in the same manner as if the parts so put together were falsely made or forged, and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both. It seems like a fantasy note that is made to look real in every respect, but isn't a replica of actual US currency, could run afoul of this. The key is of course the "intent to defraud". So, this type of fantasy note seems to be more appropriately classified as a forgery should anyone ever try to pass it off as legitimate currency.

I'm not aware if the note even exists....all I've ever seen is the image.
It definitely raises eyebrows.

Not the prettiest girl at the dance, but she drinks beer and likes to fish. This Richmond replacement note was the only district star for the 1981 $100's with 640K printed.

Here's one you don't see often. It was top pop when I bought it (likely not anymore ), but I figured this baby has upside. Not much, it turns out. Looks like a lot of money but not the case.

If I ever started collecting currency notes I'd do $100 exclusively. They are neat and pop culture. Thanks for posting these.

Hundred dollar Federal Reserve Bank Notes are not rare, and all of the examples I've seen carry a premium above face value. The higher the grade the higher the premium. My only $100 FRBN was purchased early in my collecting years. I got a terrific deal because of a chop mark on the face. In hindsight, my next move shouldn't have happened. I sent the note off to have the chop mark removed. It came back completely absent of the stamp, and I've regretted it every time I've viewed it since then. It's now just like every other 1929 $100 Kansas City FRBN, in AU. Part of the note's history vanished and I learned a valuable lesson that day. Before and After

Nice to know I'm not the only one that has made mistakes collecting. Nice looking notes though.

KC is the second-lowest print run of these tough type notes. Why do you regret conserving it? You would now rather have an obviously detailed AU note rather than a (possibly) straight AU note?
