I was at work the other day and some lady said the new five dollar bills say serial dated 2006, when they were printed in 2007 or 2008. I've looked through all my new fives and they all say 2006 so this can't be a misprint can it, is it worth anything.

no, this is just a series number not like coins that change every year. Notes can have the same date on them for many years, the only time it changes is if there is some change in signatures or a design change

Henry Paulson suceeded John Snow as Secretary of Treasury in 2006, thus starting a new currency series date.

Bryan and Biokemist said it all. The only thing I would add is the question by some as to whether changing the colour of the ink and adding a few more elements to the bill constitutes a "design change".

Same here, I am still getting the old one more often. I have only had three of the new ones come to me.

Just a new urban legend passed around by email. A cashier at Target would not let me friend spend the only five she had when she was trying to pay. The cashier claimed you could take it to the bank and get a $10 bill for it.

Unfortunately it is not true, but I feel they are being hoarded by the uninformed.

I wonder if you fold them a certain way, Bill Gates will appear and give you a new car?

G'day,

- these same uninformed will dribble them back into circulation, in nearly pristine condition, over the decades to come. Which is the underlying hope of all noodlers.
