I have a big bag of zincs I have put off searching for the obvious reasons: The vast majority of listed errors and varieties in zinc are minor and of little value, also zinc is the most "biodegradable" US coin material so a good portion of these pennies will be no joy to look at. It would be great to skip searching them altogether but of course there are the exceptions that would be a shame to miss. The ones I already have memorized are the CAMs, WAMs, anything copper after 1982, and the 1983 doubled ear. I also know to flip the memorials with the two ends of the building as the axis for spotting rotations, and to keep an eye out for anything just really weird. And that's it basically. I've heard of missing mint marks and designer initials but didn't memorize the dates, I know there are at least a few impressive and valuable DD's and RPM's/OMM's but again, don't remember the dates. And then there are likely errors/varieties I've just never heard of at all.

I need to get this over with and could do it a lot faster if I just had a handy little list on the table. So, other than the ones I already know about, what would you call the top zincs worth looking for? To narrow the question of 'worth,' let's say worth at least $5 plus shipping, raw on ebay. I know, a coin is worth whatever someone thinks it's worth, but you know I'm not talking about such-and-such year DDR 027 microscopic doubling on the __th column of the memorial, etc.

1983,1984,1988,1992,1995,1999,2000,2004,2006,2011 That would be my top ten. Others might disagree or have their on list. The problem with this list is you might miss some great varieties. Add to this the importance of grade. Many of the minor varieties could meet your $5 target in higher grades.
Advise: Be selective bay condition not date But the dates I gave you have atleast one variety that could fetch $5 in lower grades.

But what exactly is there to look for in those years? And are those really all Philadelphia? I was hoping for a bit more info, like "198_ Denver strong doubling on obverse lettering" or "20__ Philly missing designer mark on reverse" That sort of thing.

Looking at that website it would seem that NGC, like CherryPickers' Guide, blends 2006 DDO-003 and DDO-004 into one coin. Surprising that they haven't sorted that out yet.
