There is some contrast between fields and details, but from the pictures that I see, not quite enough contrast to deem 'PL'. Hint of rainbow toning, but only on a minor segment of the obverse.
Sharp strike on the reverse, which helps prompt the question 'PL or not?'
Slight blotchiness on obverse makes it a bit harder to determine MS62 or or better, but I will give it the benefit of he doubt, therefore, MS63.
Much better than either of my two examples of Morgans.
Keep in mind that 1881 is known for real nice strikes,so a higher grade is not that big of a deal for that year. This coin is lacking eye appeal,IMHO. John1
I'm at MS63 as well. The reverse may be PL but the obverse does not appear to be. There are a lot of PL one-siders out there from the SF mint especially dated 1880 and 1881. I think they played musical dies...
MS-63 Impossible to make a call on the pl designation from a picture. The mirrors need to be 2-4" deep to hit pl, the contrast is a non factor.....ie you can have a beautiful cameo contrast, but if the mirrors aren't deep enough it is not pl.
