Is this Hafner of the Maria Theresa Thaler reference?

From the context "JAVA: AR ducaton (taler, daalder), KM-184, Hafner-J1, countermarked djawa (Java) in Jawi script on Peru 1774-LIMAE 8 reales, assayer MJ, VF.", I believe this may be an example of a java countermark on a MTT.

I would appreciate any associated text from this reference as well a photograph, if available. Please feel free to add the info to my "Java Countermark on 8 Reales" thread.

I have Hafners new catalogue. In the second section of the catalogue, he covers countermarks. the first set of which are from Java. The catalogue numbers, for the java countermarks, run from 95a through 95e.

I suggest you use considerable caution using Hafner references with countermarks. Until I pointed it out to him problems, he was going to list the infamous book " Marcas Resellos y Contramarcas" as a reference. He and the auction house that sponsored the catalogue ( not HD Rauch) have regarded that book as authoritative and although the reference to it has gone, that whole countermark section in Hafner's catalogue is substantively based on it.

Hafners reissued his catalogue in 2016 and he really destroyed( for three years) my love of MTTs. Look out for a later post. I wasn't going to make comment but I think as people are using Hafner as authoritative they should be made aware of the issues with his work.

austrokiwi, thanks for the link to Guenter Roeck's web site on your other post. I had found this site eariler. It appears the designation J-1 is not a Hafner reference but actually a reference to Guenter Roeck's research, would you agree?

Thanks again austrokiwi.

Now I am interested in seeing the depictions of Java counterstamps from "Catalogo Marcas, Resellos y Contramarcas".
