With the verdigris and a bit of wear it's worth only face value.

It's worth 2 pence in the UK (a tiny bit more than 2 US cents).

It is one of the most common UK coins ever issued. As the UK introduced decimal currency that year, billions of new coins were required to replace the old £sd coinage. The 1971 2p has a mintage of 1,454,856,250 - so many were made, that no further 2p's were needed for circulation until 1975!

Unfortunately some misguided people have got it into their heads that every British 2p coin with the words "New Pence" on the reverse is rare and valuable. That's why you sometimes see them on ebay for ridiculous amounts of money. There is one very rare mule dated 1983 with "New Pence" instead of "Two Pence", and this is the valuable coin. All 1971 and 1975-81 2p coins had "New Pence" on the reverse and were struck in vast quantities. They are worth just face value in circulated condition.

Even in Uncirculated condition a 1971 2p is only worth a few pence, as hundreds of thousands were put aside by dealers at the time, or sold in sets of 'Britain's First Decimal Coins', so they are still plentiful. I get 2 or 3 1971 2p coins in change each week, 48 years after they were issued... and I just spend them again!
