I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what is it about this coin that you like in the way it looks?

Indeed! I know he looks quite abused, but I just like the streaked/woodgrain effect. Gives it a cool (and different) look.

I like the streaking too...it gives it that period feel. Is that tape on the reverse?
In terms of grade, photos don't show everything--are all the letters in LIBERTY at least partly visible?
If yes, I'd give it an F12, if not--a VG10.

As for the letters.. ERTY are partially visible. That small brown piece looks like an errant flake of tobacco that's been stuck in place for years..
