I picked this coin up quite awhile ago.
Originally I thought it was a mangled 1 Cent. But today with nothing to do, I was looking at it and measured. It's too small. My Krause has the one cent at 29mm - this one is 24 mm. Any guesses out there as to what this really is?

That would be a half-cent but the reverse has been altered.

Yep, if it's ~24 mm it is a Half Cent, 1828 - 13 stars.

This one falls under the broad category of "love tokens" which were coins(generally from the 19th century) that had one side removed(usually the rev so date is intact) and it was engraved with the initials of a loved one, usually in an ornate script but some of them can be quite crude. I think this one is quite nice with the heraldic eagle punch on it as well
ebay has an entire section on love tokens under the header of "Exonumia".

.. some being very interesting. Though I've noticed that most were made in silver (dimes, quarters), a Half Cent 'love token' isn't common.
