The cents of 1828 come in two major varieties. The first has a tall, narrow date (closely spaced date digits) and the second, seen quite a bit less often, has smaller and more widely spread date digits.

This 1828 I just picked up is a small wide date example. Newcomb assigned this variety N-10, and rated it common (R1-R2) but much like the cents of 1809, finding examples is more difficult than the rarity scale might suggest, with large narrow date examples being much more plentiful and far easier to find in high grades.

This coin has a few issues (dings, nicks, and hard hits such as above the bust and center of the reverse) and will be getting some Verdi-Care and Blue Ribbon but it's a tough coin in anything less than ugly so I'm happy with it.

My personal grade is VG and possibly details / environmental. What do you think, CCF gurus of grading?
