Hello,

I am looking at this note in a auction and I have been currently outbided @$750 CAD. Was wondering if anyone thought that this not was VF or higher?

Thank you for any help rendered.

Difficult to grade paper money from pictures, but VF certainly seems plausible on this example.

IMO it's a maximum of VF, but that's by US standards.
IF the grading is by Canadian standards, and
IF Canadian currency grading standards are like Canadian coin grading standards,
THEN I'd say "yes", it's less than VF.

I am curious - who is the girl? Perhaps Queen Elizabeth?

I agree with walk2dwater. Looks pressed
And I can see creases on the reverse.

-Yup, good guess "matthewvincent" (but not sure how young she is there...)

Lot's of CDN collectors call this one the "Shirley Temple" note & it has become one of the "sweethearts" most collectors want to acquire (thus pretty high book value).

IMO- the front of the note is pretty washed out looking (to me). I don't how many of these you've seen but most "originals" 1935 $20'ss I've looked at look a lot pinker. (the back looks a little better but there are obvious creases that have been pressed out).

Although it probably could pass off as a VF20 at first glance (or online), I think if you looked at this close enough in person, you'd see the flaws much more clearly. I know it is very tempting to try to get a deal (when it comes to 1935 notes) but if it looks too good to be true, than it probably is. When it comes to the more expensive notes I would stick to TPG sales because its a lot of money to spend (& lose) on something that's been over graded.
