Just to the right of the initials the corner appears filled in. I have looked at other same coins and don't see this.

Maybe these two will help. The ridge looks like a cut along side the bottom or the shield. Not sure how grease would do it but could have been something on the die. But that filled in corner is about the same height as the shield itself. not sure of the right term but in height I mean how far the devise is from the surface of the coin. I don't know but thanks for the inputs.
