I've finally decided to work on the Modern Commemorative issues but I can't seem to find mintages for them for 2016, 2017, & 2018. I'm looking for all 3 denominations (when there were 3) in both uncirculated and proof.

As the mintage numbers continue to spiral down I don't want to miss recent scarcer issues if those numbers have continued to decrease.

But it's great fun to see many <100,000 mintage issues TPG'ed if you like them, in 70's for well under issue price.

The classic collection was a dollar munching experience and it will be very nice to be able to buy neat modern types for great (in my opinion) prices.

I always do me research before I spend anything (or not much

Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Moxking,

Sounds good, I think you'll enjoy them but just like the classic commemoratives, some designs are better than others.

The Mint in its infinite wisdom quit providing consolidated mintages for the modern commemoratives in 2013. You now have to look through the monthly sales figures until you find the last reported sales figure in order to determine the final mintage. Plus, when the coin is in multiple packages, you have to add up the sales across the various product packages to get the total for a particular coin. It's a real PITA IMHO.

I believe the following are correct (or not far off) for the $5 and $1 coins (but I don't collect the half dollar commemoratives and don't have those mintages)

2016
Mark Twain $5: PR-13,266, UNC-5695
Mark Twain $1: PR-78,536, UNC-26,281
Park Service $5: PR-19,506, UNC-6,743
Park Service $1: PR-77,309, UNC-20,994

2017
Boys Town $5: PR-7,347, UNC-2,947
Boys Town $1: PR-31,610, UNC-12,234
Lions Club $1: PR-68,526, UNC-17,247

2018
BCA $5: PR-10,386, UNC-4,477
BCA $1: PR-34,542, UNC-12,526
WWI $1: PR-127,837, UNC-22,336
Rest in Peace

Thanks so much for the information Bad Dog. I do.appreciate your time.

I can't imagine a single reason why such a strange system would be necessary to give a simple mintage figure.

I do collect the clad halves, especially the MS, simply because no one else seems to love them.

I've already learned enough particular sales information to see a total scattershot for prices. I'm still flummoxed over the Bison Dollar, even with a strong carryover from nickel fiends.

Ive fallen in love with some designs and cannot believe how hideous others are. That Kennedy special Olympics dollar portrait is a total gag fest.

Ill enjoy working on a new set and thanks again for your help.
Rest in Peace

Those MS $5's sure blows a hole in the Robinson as the lowest mintage. I have to think those will be losing some price values in the future. Then I can justify buying one

Fyi - Maybe you already know this but I've found that sometimes you can buy the prestige set cheaper than the individual proof coins or the 2 coin sets.

Thanks for the tip Happy Hippo. I often find it less expensive to buy the coin already NGC or PCGS, even in 70, rather than submitting myself. Especially if the set is required to be unopened package and all coins graded when I only want one or two from a set.

The UNCs definitely have lower mintages than the PRFs. IMHO that's because folks prefer the look of the DCAM coins (or at least I do ).

The Boys Town UNC Half Eagle has one of the lowest mintages of any (classic or modern) commemorative coin. 17% of them have been TPG graded by the 3 major TPGs (PCGS-341, NGC-146, ANACS-16). Most received a 70 grade.

Current ebay sales of MS70 TPG graded Boys Town Half Eagles coins are typically more than 2X the original issue price of the coin. Hard to say whether this will increase or decrease in the future.

Very valuable discussion.
I have the same mentality as moxking, however, I couldn't focus on the series and missed the Boys Town until it's too late. I have to play catch up now.

Thank you all for your great contribution.

It's getting closer to the end of 2019.... so Where are we standing now, regarding the current mintage for 2019 Commemorative? Which are potential sleeper coins?

lowest mintage for half dollar is the unc BCA with latest sale number 11,301. People pay high premium for a PCGS MS70 because very few get highest PCGS grade.
Legion half dollar unc latest sale number 10,657 (end of October).

As mentioned at Legion topic, Legion gold unc has already higher sale number than Boys Town gold unc with end of October. BadDog already mentioned, depends on sale policy if sold out earlier or end of year sale surge, but I believe Legion's mintage will surpass the Boys Town.
