Being new at this, one thing I'm rapidly learning is that a lot of raw coins sold on
ebay are not exactly as represented on the listing. It never fails that pictures of the coins will be made to make flaws almost invisible. A particularly flattering photograph angle, deceptive light positioning, or failing to mention that a coin has an obvious problem (in hand) is almost guaranteed. Once the coin is in hand I'll go back to the listing and see that if I'd really paid attention to the photograph, I would have discovered the problem. A couple of examples are using the camera flash to hide rim dings and carbon spots

. Not all sellers do this and some are very good at making it clear the entire condition of the coin. On some sellers though, it's amazing how close to the line they come without crossing it to getting bad feedback. No wonder people like certified coins from the "big 4".
