Here is one of the few foriegn notes that I purchased. As the largest denomination ever produced, it caused quite a stir. The inflation rate grew so rapidly that by the end of the day these notes were discarded in the streets.

These notes were issued in Belgrade Yugoslavia. Really a neat story. The inflation rate peaked at 313 million percent per month. This note has the most zeros ever issued anywhere in the world.

Is this similar to the German notgeld currency in that it was not minted by the Treasury, but by independent merchants and the like?Like Catman, I thought that Germany was the only country affected to this extent. I also thought that the highest denomination was issued by Germany at this time. It's good to learn something new

National Dealer, similar notes were also issued by the Serbs for their occupation zones in Croatia & Bosnia-Hercegovina as well. This had the effect of destroying the value of the Bosnia-Hercegovina Dinar, which was issued by the Government of President Alija Izetbegovic.

Thanks for this bit of information. Such an awesome note and equally good story. Do we have dealers on this site? I have collected many of my foriegn notes while traveling. However, have recently turned to https://www.com to purchse interesting notes. I see this note is going for roughly 18$ on ebay. If their is a better outlet, I would love to know.

Thanks.
Rest in Peace

Great note. Very interesting.

I colect only what I find when we go on a cruise.

Latest is from Cayman Islands. I like the One Dollar note with the fish and Ocean bottom motif on the back.

In Germany, bethween 1914 and 1924 the inflation money isseued by the goverment was with more zero's then the most workers could count :-)

But, and this is a verry verry nice item to collect, From several city's and Landeskreise (county's) they have isseued their own notes and coins as well, so I have a few notes made and printed in silk, linnen, and cardboard, as well coins from differend places in Iron, Aluminium, brass and zinc.

The notes are known becouse of their anti-goverment drawings on them, and karacteristic picks of older city's, and story's abouth them.

Most of the notes are in low faleu, bethween 5 pfennig untill 2 Mark, there are several thousends isseued, good catalogs for those are for the coins the Walter Funck's: Die Nötmunzen der deutsche städte, Gemeinden kreise, Länder etc

And for the notes the catalog of Manfred Mehl; Deutsche Serienscheine von 1918-1924.

Greetings, Carl

Prior to the Yugoslavian inflation period, the country that held the record for the most zeroes on a note was Hungary,as the value of the Pengo plummetted in value. In desparation, the Hungarians decided enough was enough & replaced the currency with the Forint, which was issued up
to 1892.

A little clarity. The Yugoslavian note is the note with the most zeroes on it, however it was NOT the highest denomination note issued. That distinction does belong to Hungary, who issued a 100 million B-pengo. That's 20 zeroes if you do the math.

They actually printed a 1 milliard B-pengo note, with 21 zeroes, but never released it.
