Has anyone really had any luck finding anything nice in small plastic bags that you can obtain from banks in the UK?

Just for fun today, I got £20 in 50 pence and £6 in 20 pence coins.

A quick look thru all of them nothing really exciting.

Did find one 2005 50p, Johnson's Dictionary reverse and two 2006 pence Victoria Cross reverse.

Not so much coin bags, but I always put a £20 note into a ticket machine at the station - and sometimes get a nice surprise as the machine will hand you 15 quid in pound coins for change.

Got some Manx and Gibraltar stuff from those before.

Might be an idea to ask for a bankbag of £2s you never know what commemoratives you might find.

I don't travel by train so I don't get that fun of getting change for a machine.

I was hoping that the 50 pence bags would yield more commemoratives at a lower cost. I have been able to find circulation strikes of all of the circulation issues over the past years except for a 2007 normal reverse 50 pence.

I'm not even sure if they bothered to mint standard 2007 50ps with Britannia - I've not seen any either. More scout ones than normal ones it seems for sure, if there are any.

The Royal Mint site does not make it clear if they bothered to mint standard 2007 50p's. At least it is nice to know that someone has not seen them.

I did manage to locate a standard 2008 5p last night in change.

Last of the old eh!

I wonder why they did that, what with the new fractioned shield design as well. I've got a 1 pence from 2008 - guess I kept it as it is an oddity and the end of an era etc.

The mint did make uncirculate sets for 2008 of both the old and new.

The question is how many of each that we will actually see.

Also which of the £2 desgins are for circulation.

From an Australian perspective, I go to the bank and get $200 of 50 cent pieces. I often find a number of varieties, errors and uncirculated coins from various years.

Obviously the greater the number to search, the greater the finds. I always take the coins back to a different bank. I don't want to have to search the same ones again.

Yass when you obtain the coins in Australia how are they stored? Coin rolls or bags?
