I don't know what a Cud is , but looks like you know what your talking about.

A Cud is formed when a piece of the die breaks away & the metal fills the break instead of forming the rim/fields/ bust/etc. They can be small or progress into huge wads where only half the coin is struck properly. Plenty of examples out there to look up ;). Try cudsoncoins.com for some references.

Got a similar 88 floating around here also. Can't find it. Hope it didn't make its way into the dump bin !
