Sigh.... enough already... I remember when commemorative coins were something special...

Yawn. Too many "events" for my tastes.

I look forward to seeing the coins, but I do agree that the whole "commemorative coin" thing was been overdone.

I too am very sick and tired of this constant bombardment of commemorative coins, and it seems like any old reason will do for one. I'll bet you that there is a mint employee somewhere thinking "the queen surely must have ate breakfast this morning, let's issue a commemorative coin for that!". Sigh.

I feel like we have already had more than enough commemorative war coins over the years. Also, I had to look up who Bill Reid was. Not one of the Canadian we learned about in school.
That being said, of course I'm going to be on the look out for all those coins when they are released lol. At this rate I'm going to need another toonie album soon. Already had to get a second loonie album.

I agree with the above posts, just getting Ridiculous. Just one coin per year is more than enough. All the different commemoratives that are coming out take away from what used to be special.

Too many, yes, but at least these relate to Canadians and events of some significance. Also they are available for face value. Much better than expensive NCLT about cartoon characters.
That being said, I am losing the battle to keep up with all the circulation commemoratives. I am only current to 2017.

Oriole, they are only available for face value if you get lucky finding them in circulation or at a bank branch. The RCM will sell special wrapped rolls for over face, then charge you tax and shipping on top of it!

I'm all for these commemorative circulation coins to encourage and promote the hobby. However, the RCM needs to do much better to get these coins into circulation, for example, the 5-coin packs and household free shipping that others have mentioned on this forum. Thanks.

@Cdncoins, since I use so little cash I would probably have to get them from a local dealer for 2-3 times face. Either that or get rolls from the bank and hope to get lucky. I am sure that I will do that eventually unless I stop collecting coins completely, which is not likely.

@redlock, the second link you posted is the same as the first. Took some time and did some digging to find the right one. http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2019/...179-eng.htmlAll three circulation coin releases are listed together in the same index dated June 12. http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2019/...dex-eng.htmlLooking forward to reading the official announcements and release details. These will certainly add some excitement searching through pocket change and like most of the other commemoratives in recent years will virtually disappear never to be seen again outside of a collection or dealer's inventory!

@Proof Nut:
Thanks for posting the correct link to the ''End of WWII'' Toonies. I cannot edit the first/staring post anymore.

You're welcome redlock. Designs sound very busy given the small canvas.
Guessing each commemorative will be released shortly before the anniversaries and a quick search suggests January, June & September.

Although I also lament the 'over-use' of specialized coins, I do look forward to seeing (and getting) them when they are released. By my thinking , I will NOW be buying TEN twonies next year: (The FOUR in this post) + one each of Circulated base, Uncirculated base, Specimen, base Proof, silver Proof, and coloured silver Proof. As Cdncoins mentioned, I don't expect to get ANY of the 2020 $2 coins at face value. In the past, even getting a base circulated coin will run me about $5 each.
