Quote: I seem to remember Spur got us with a German transportation token way back when. Yeah, and everyone threw a fit about it, so I would say we should stay away from "tokens." I used that because I consider it to be Notgeld, but that's not how Numista lists it. I think anything that's listed under "coins" there should be fair game. If it's not listed at all, then you're just being mean.

Quote: Have we ruled out Portugal. I don't guess so, but I lumped it in with Spain. However, there are two gold coins listed under Portugal itself for that timeframe. I have a strong hunch depending on the answer to my last question, though...

Quote: 15. This coin was not issued under Rudolf II That means the date range is now 1548-1576. Sprue, I see a ton of coins from Portugal, not just 2.

Quote: That means the date range is now 1548-1576. Only for places that would have coins issued under him. The issuing authorities and various overlapping rulers is very confusing during this time period. I also don't know whether to count smaller issuing authorities as separate from their larger kingdoms. Also, things exist like Rudolf II being know as just Rudolf or Rudolf I depending on which area you're talking about. Maybe asking if it was part of the Holy Roman Empire would help... There are a bunch of places like Feudal France that are not listed under just France, but are part of the HRE. It's really confusing (and frustrating).

Still a ton of options it seems...Hungary, Hungarian States (not Transylvania)...Feudal France and Italian States (inland)...Livonia...

I'm working on a list of possible issuing entities, but it will take some time.

Quote: I was talking date range, not lists. What does the GM think. I don't understand how the reign of Rudolf II would affect the potential date range for coins from places like Portugal. I guess I was asking you to explain how "you see it." It seems like a mistake to me to cut the date range down entirely based on that one question...

Okay, this is the narrowed-down list I have. Many of these have further subdivisions that will have to be figured out if it gets to that. Whether or not some of the issuing entities actually border the Mediterranean Sea is proving to be a little difficult to determine, but it may not be necessary if, for instance, the Italian States can be ruled out altogether. Austria Bohemia Estonia France - Feudal Hungary Italian states Lithuania Livonia Brabant, Duchy of Frisia Liege, Prince-bishopric of Wallachia Netherlands Poland Portugal Aragon, Kingdom of (Spain) Navarre, Kingdom of (Spain) A big question I have is if the GM will say the coin is, for example, from Austria if it was actually issued by a subdivision of Austria like Tyrol...
