From https://www.mintageworld.com/coin/8...settlements/

"Gradually, Straits Settlements dollar became an acceptable legal tender in the Federated and as well as Unfederated Malay States. In the coming years the American dollar, Japanese Yen, silver Mexican, Spain, Peru, Bolivia, and Hong Kong dollar also became legal tenders in the region."

So what? If you use other countries currency it doesn't mean you can "issue" that currency.
If Spruett stands with his remark that the coin WAS ISSUED by the Straights Settlements, it cannot be the American dollar, the Japanese Yen, the silver Mexican, Spain, Peru, Bolivia, or Hong Kong dollar. ONLY those countries can legally issue and mint their currency.

It would be like Spruett stating that the dollar, which is in use in Costa Rica, is issued by Costa Rica. Yeah, right...

I said it was issued IN the Straits Settlements. Maybe narrowing down the date range will help clarify things. Like I said, I'm answering the best I can, but I don't want to give any unnecessary information away, either.

To clarify, would you say the coin was "issued in the name of the Straits Settlements"?

I'm not really sure how to answer that. Maybe rephrasing the question will help.

I will say that with the geopolitical instability in southeast Asia during this time, I wouldn't focus too much on the Straits Settlements alone.

If I'm not mistaken, that officially occurred in 1949, which is outside of the already established date range.

Maybe its just me, but if it was issued by the Straits Settlements I would hope that Numista would list it under the Straits Settlements.

See question 14.

And have a nice day.

Anyone else think the coin might be from Netherlands East Indies.
It would be used on island as well as in the Malaya peninsula in this time frame.
I'll run it past you guys, before I ask the question.

Looks like it may be a good possibility. Fits the time frame and the non-precious metal requirement.

"Issued in the Strait Settlements" and "Issued in the Netherlands East Indies" are mutually exclusive.
