As far an introduction to ancient coins is concerned, we all now quite righty disregard the atrocities of the Roman Empire. Because of this Roman history is now studied without bias, and with far more accuracy with regard to portraying facts properly.
Roman coins are a fascinating area of numismatic study, and have been since the Renaissance.
