Below the king's bust there is a symbol of some kind. This is the mint master's mark. On the reverse, there is a letter (mostly, could occasionally be some other character) at the bottom, below the branches (between the words DOMINI BENEDICTUM). This is the mark of the mint (A for Paris, D for Lyon, etc).
