My son and I have just gotten into coin collecting and know very little.I had a bunch of US coins that I was going through and found a 1953 nickel that has no rim,the coin is thin, but is in pretty good condition. Our question is did they make a rimless nickel,or is it something else?

Welcome to CCF Keith. A picture posted will help us out a lot if you can post one. The rim might have some heavy wear on it caused by lots of use in coin counting machines and pop machines.

To post pictures I just made a photobucket account and then drug them onto here. Has the rim been worn off or maybe struck on a dime planchet? Wouldn't that be something!

Thanks JonS7070,although worn,it does have uniform ridges around the circumfrence of the coin, they can be plainly felt with a fingernail. It is proberly just a worn out nickel,I am still looking for my camera, and hope I can get a good pic.I will say that my son is 13 and got interested in ths about 2 months ago and I told him I would help him however I could,so when we see something we dont have a clue as to what we are looking at.We found this site this morning, and it looks like a great place for advice and information. So far, thanks for the help,Keith

JonS.7070,after you said something about the dime,it got me to checking, the diameter is about .020 smaller than a nickel of the same year and is the same thickness of a dime.
