They're called Die Chips, not Cuds. A Cud is a completely different term. A Cud is a type of Die Break that only involves the rim and some parts of the fields. This coin in the link I'll give is a genuine Cud. http://goccf.com/t/331880
The die chip is in the right area, but it's smaller trhan the ones I've previously seen. Maybe this is one of the earlier quarters with the error? Could you give us a close up of the sun ray?
This is actually a Denver minted quarter. I had trouble trying to upload the picture of the die chip on the sun ray. I will upload the picture as soon as I can get to a computer again.
Yes this is a die chip. They are generally only valuable if they are extreme or in a specific area. Your quarter might be able to sell for a bit, as you can "name" it. Being able to name a die chip or die crack, such as "skull cracked Lincoln," puts value on it. I doubt it would gain much value, but either way, it's a great find and I would keep it.
